Your first kiss. Your first date. Popping the question. Getting married. Having a baby. These are some of the most amazing milestones in our lifetime. You are going to want to remember them all. When you choose to start a family, everything changes, and you’re going to want to remember it. Those special moments in the hospital are so very precious – and your little one will only be that little those first few days.
From the time that your baby is born, your baby will be changing so fast – each hour and every day. A Fresh 48 session captures those first milestones: from baby meeting their siblings or grandparents to Dad’s first diaper change, or simply just gazing at your new bundle of joy. These moments soon get lost in the fog of your “babymoon”. With the magic of these treasured photographs, you’re able to go back in time and experience the atmosphere, smells, sounds, and joy that you and your family shared during this cherished, happy time.
Many families are choosing to invest in a photographer to document those first moments so that they can have peace of mind remembering each and every detail. A Fresh 48 Session is an intimate session for families that want the first few hours of their newborn’s life captured. They are typically held within the first 24-48 hours after your baby’s birth. This session takes place when the emotions are still high and everything is brand new, so it is perfect for remembering those first moments forever.
Details are a huge part of Fresh 48 sessions as well. Baby’s tiny hat, your hospital room, baby’s itty bitty feet, hospital bracelets and gifts from family are all documented in this one-of-a-kind photography session. As you and your family love on your new addition, I slip in for one hour to capture all of the details that quickly become a blur of excitement once you bring your newborn home. It’s important to note that a Fresh 48 Session is not meant to take the place of a newborn session. While possibly only days apart, your newborn baby will barely even look the same by the time you have your in-home newborn portraits captured (typically held within 7-14 days of life).
I always recommend that baby is changed, swaddled and fed shortly before I get there, that way baby is extra sleepy and cozy! Please don’t stress about making your hospital room spotless – the point of this lifestyle session is capture the room, the moment, everything as is. I’ll bring along my camera, I may adjust the blinds a bit to allow lots of natural light, but other than that I don’t interfere with much.
I recommend wearing neutral colored clothing, and whatever is comfortable for you! Moms usually like to wear something comfortable like a grey cardigan or robe, and dads can wear something as simple as a white tshirt and jeans. Typically baby just is swaddled in his/her hospital blanket or a blanket special to you.
I strongly recommend that during this time the only individuals present in the hospital room are Mom, Dad, siblings, and baby. Large gatherings can easily wear you and your baby out more than anticipated. Hospital rooms can quickly get crowded with extended family members which makes it more difficult to have a quiet, relaxed, intimate session. Once all photos are captured for the Fresh 48 session, and if times allows, extended family members such as grandparents, are welcome to join us in the room for some candid photographs.
Boudoir photography celebrates all the ways your crazy beautiful body has held you up, moved you forward, and turned you into a woman who can get. it. done. Sis, that is something that should make you proud.
