Hang on now, you didn’t tell me I was literally photographing a FAIRYTALE wedding! Oh my goodness. You guys. Megan and Martez’s wedding day was one that was fit for royalty. Truly, a dream come true. Which is fitting, since Megan told me they want to go to Disney World for their honeymoon!
Martez is a Marine with the US Marine Corps and Megan has been here finishing school. And you know that phrase, “Distance makes the heart grow fonder”? It is soooo true! These two have the absolute sweetest puppy love together! Each of their faces lights up when the other is around and their chemistry is just incredible together. Those giggles!! A photographers dream, am I right?!
One of our favorite moments was during their wedding ceremony, Martez had walked his mother in to the church. He gave her a hug as she sat down, took off his hat, and laid it down in her lap to hold on to for him. To us, these seemed like the ultimate form of respect. It was showing honor to the woman that helped him get where he is today, and letting him take it from there. You’ll notice that along with this picture, there are also lots of images of his hat and dog tags. I knew that the dog tags would be important to Megan, because in a long distance relationship, you have to hold on strongly to anything you have from that person. I’m sure that these were very symbolic throughout their long distance relationship. And now that they were finally together, I thought it was only right to pay homage to this symbol.
While they were slowly dancing to Dan + Shay, you could see them share my favorite look. It’s a look of happiness. It’s a look of relief, like “finally!” It’s a look of knowing that this person is yours, forever. And gosh, isn’t that the greatest feeling? They smiled at each other and soaked in this time together as their song played. For us, that’s when we first were like, “Yesssss we’re married!” And could finally just take a moment and enjoy our day.
On a totally unrelated note, Jon and I would both like to take a second to appreciate the incredible cupcakes that were at their reception. Those Monster Cookie cupcakes… oh…my….GOSH!
Megan & Martez, thank you for involving us in the most important day of your lives! What an incredible, perfect day! Enjoy these sneak peeks from your day!
