Confession time! When I first started playing with the idea of shooting boudoir, I thought I had to be like all the other photographers out there in order to be successful.
I’d see these beautiful photos, but they were all kind of dark and moody (which is gorgeous, just not my natural shooting style), so I assumed that’s how all boudoir had to be.
But the more I tried to shoot like someone else, the less I liked my photos. I even call those beginning shoots the dark ages. 😅
Dark and moody isn’t my default (unless I haven’t had my coffee 😅). My style is more bright and airy with a dash of moody mixed in. And the more I started shooting boudoir my way, the more I loved my photos and started attracting my ideal clients.
Regardless of what you photograph now (weddings, families, seniors, etc.), you’ve probably spent your entire career developing your style. It’s what makes you unique and it’s why your clients love you.
So don’t go changing now!
When you stick with what you know your confidence will show. (Yep! I totally just rhymed there!)
Find a friend (or two or three) and practice shooting boudoir your way. Play with light, shadows, backdrops. Have fun!! Like Bob Ross always said, “There are no mistakes, only happy accidents!”
The more you practice, the more you’ll see that your style of boudoir is the right style of boudoir for you and your clients.

Boudoir photography celebrates all the ways your crazy beautiful body has held you up, moved you forward, and turned you into a woman who can get. it. done. Sis, that is something that should make you proud.
