Girls, I have a slight confession to make…
One of the main reasons I booked my first boudoir session for myself was so I could get a feel for what shooting boudoir with real clients would be like!
Scandalous? Totally not! 😇😅
At the time, I was thinking about adding boudoir for my brides as a wedding photographer. So, of course, I had to see what it was all about!
I mean, I was about to get (almost) completely naked in front of an (almost) complete stranger!
Whew! Boo, trust me when I tell you I was second-guessing my decision and freaking out the whole time I was driving to my shoot.
I found the address, parked my car, gathered the courage to walk up to the studio door, and…..
It.Was.Locked!!!
No—not kidding! The studio door was locked!
As it turned out, I was at the wrong entrance. I eventually found the right one, had my session, and all was well.
NBD, right?
Except it was. It was a really big deal!
Imagine your client showing up to her session with you feeling all these nerves and jitters. And then, on top of that, she’s also wondering:
Where do I park? What door should I use? Should I come with my hair wet or dry? What’s a ‘normal’ thing to wear to a boudoir shoot? Do I arrive early or right on time?
See what I mean?
Because when you have an amazing pre-session client experience in place, you are doing everything you can to make your clients feel comfortable, cared for, and prepared.
And I can’t say enough about what it will do for your confidence as a photographer who wants to provide (and charge for) a 4-figure boudoir session experience!
If you’re curious about how you can create a pre-session boudoir photography client experience like no other, I’ve got you!
What I mean is: Double-check that your contact information and inquiry form are easily located and simple to fill out.
This sounds obvious, but it’s a small gesture that goes a long way. When your client decides she’s ready to make the first move and reach out to you, make sure the process is as straightforward for her as possible.
If you really want to go above and beyond, set up an email automation that goes out immediately after she fills out your contact form. This email should let her know you’ve received her inquiry, when she can expect a response, and what the next steps will be.
I break down this email automation in more detail and give you a plug-and-go template you can use to create your own inside my Boudoir Client Workflow and Email Guide.
The world we live in is so busy and it moves so fast! I really don’t think you can do business without sending reminder emails to your clients. I know I personally love to get these for all of my appointments—whether that’s for the dog groomer or the dentist!
A quick appointment reminder email that goes out before your calls and sessions that says, “Hi! Your appointment is tomorrow! See you then!” does wonders. It doesn’t have to be fancy. No one will judge you or like you any less for setting up automated, canned responses. In fact, you’ll be doing so much to put your client’s mind at ease because she’ll know her appointment matters to you and that your calendars match up.
You can get my whole process for creating appointment reminder emails (plus plug-and-go templates for writing your own) inside my Boudoir Client Workflow and Email Guide.
You are never bothering your clients when you share as many details as possible about their upcoming session and what they can expect. Step into their shoes. Wouldn’t you want to know where to park, what to wear, how early to arrive, what to bring, etc?
By over-communicating and thinking of every detail, you’re taking the weight of having to do this off your client’s shoulders. Plus, you’re giving them even more confidence that they are in the hands of a caring professional.
Inside my Boudoir Client Workflow and Email Guide, I’ll walk you through every email and step that you need in place to over-communicate and prepare your clients for their session. You can grab that guide by clicking here!
Last but not least, take a moment to set up an email auto-responder for all the inquiries that land in your inbox (not just the contact form responses). Another small detail, but I seriously feel so much better when I send off a message and get instant confirmation that it was received. Your clients will feel the same way. And, bonus: Set this up once, and you’re done!
I hope these tips were helpful!

Boudoir photography celebrates all the ways your crazy beautiful body has held you up, moved you forward, and turned you into a woman who can get. it. done. Sis, that is something that should make you proud.
